665 FBI employees under investigation for misconduct
Whistleblower alleges internal review found misconduct
Senator presses FBI for more information
A whistleblower has alleged that an internal review found that 665 FBI employees are under investigation for misconduct, and a senator is now pressing the FBI for more information.
In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said he was "deeply concerned" by the allegations and requested a briefing on the matter.
"These allegations are serious and must be thoroughly investigated," Grassley wrote. "I urge you to provide me with a full accounting of the allegations and the FBI's response."
The whistleblower, who has not been identified, reportedly provided Grassley with a copy of the internal review. The review reportedly found that the 665 employees were under investigation for a variety of misconduct, including sexual harassment, discrimination, and abuse of power.
The FBI has not confirmed the existence of the internal review or the number of employees under investigation.
In a statement, the FBI said it "takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and investigates them thoroughly." The statement added that the FBI "is committed to holding our employees accountable for their actions and to ensuring that the FBI remains a professional and ethical organization."
The allegations come as the FBI is facing increasing scrutiny from Republicans, who have accused the agency of being biased against conservatives.
In a recent hearing, three self-described FBI whistleblowers testified that the FBI is "weaponized" against conservatives.
The FBI has denied these allegations, saying that it investigates all allegations of misconduct fairly and without regard to political affiliation.
